Bob Kingsley

If you look at a roster of broadcasters who began their careers with the Armed Forces Radio Service and went on to distinguish themselves as civilian broadcasters, the name Bob Kingsley will certainly appear high on the list. It's fitting recognition indeed for a man who has gone from a fledgling Armed Forces Radio Announcer to Executive Producer and Host of the most influential and longest-running radio programs in Country Music.

His career in broadcasting began in the 1960s in an unlikely place: Keflavic, Iceland. The word went out that auditions were being held at the NATO base for an announcer's job at the Armed Forces Radio Station, TFK. Airman 3rd Class Kingsley auditioned on a lark when one of his motor pool buddies said, "You've got a voice that could be on the radio...go try out." After he got that job, he never considered any other career.

Back in civilian life, Kingsley rose quickly in radio's ranks as he moved from station to station in Nevada and California. Within a few years he'd gone from the obscurity of all-night deejay gigs to Program Director of Los Angeles County powerhouse, KLAC. Then, in 1974, the direction of his career was changed forever when he was chosen by Watermark to be the producer of their exciting new show, AMERICAN COUNTRY COUNTDOWN (originally hosted by country comedian Don Bowman).

With his leadership behind the scenes and as its host since 1978, AMERICAN COUNTRY COUNTDOWN WITH BOB KINGSLEY is now heard across the United States and throughout the world on over 1000 stations. It is broadcast over the Armed Forces Radio Network, as well as on dozens of independent foreign stations. In the Kingsley era, AMERICAN COUNTRY COUNTDOWN has been honored with the Billboard Magazine Award for Top Syndicated Country Program for seven consecutive years, from 1987 through 1993. Bob produces the show through his KCCS Productions through exclusive arrangement with ABC Radio Networks. The show is distributed internationally (outside the U.S.) by Tom Rounds' Radio Express.

Bob also serves as Producer and Host of ABC Radio's successful weekday country feature program, BOB KINGSLEY WITH AMERICA'S MUSICMAKERS. This further solidifies his dual title of "Most Influential" and "Most-Listened-To" personality in country radio.
