Satiric radio commentary for the 90s from the man who drained Lake Michigan and filled it with hot chocolate!!! Happy 100th Birthday, Jell-O
Stan Freberg here. One of my favorite desserts is 100 years old.
I'll give you a hint: it's usually red, and wiggles a lot. Be right back.
[:60 SPOT BREAK]
Freberg here. Yes, the dessert most kids like best, Jell-O, is 100 this year.
They had a party in Leroy, New York, where it was created back in 1897, and
introduced a new flavor: "Sparkling White Grape, the 'Champagne of Jell-O'."
One million boxes are sold every day. Why do kids love Jell-O? Because
it tastes good, and it wiggles.
Later, a Jell-O museum will be built in Leroy. Does that mean it'll
wiggle and be made from a giant museum mold?
Speaking of Jell-O, sometime I gotta tell you about my experience with Jell-O
in Australia.
Trivia fact: an electroencephalogram shows that a human brain and a bowl
of quivering Jell-O have the same waves. Hmm.
Now that I know that, I'll pass on the White
Grape-colored champagne Jell-O.
