The answer next month!

The Answer to Last Month's "When Radio Was..."® Trivia Question!
What was "Sgt. Preston of the Yukon"'s first name?
Well, if you said "William," or just plain "Bill," you'd be right. "Challenge of the Yukon," to give the show its actual original title, first came to radio over Detroit station WXYZ as a weekly Thursday 1/4 hr. show on Feb. 3, 1938, and was developed by Fran Striker and George Trendle, the same pair that came up with "The Lone Ranger" and "The Green Hornet." The series bounced around from Thursday to Tuesday, then back to Thursday, and then Wednesday, in 1947; then went to a weekly 1/2 hour sponsored by Quaker Oats when it moved to ABC on 6-12-47, again changing days from Thursdays to Wednesdays to Saturdays, then back to Wednesday; 3 times a week (Mon., Wed. & Fri) beginning 9-6-48; back to Wednesdays on 6-15-49; then back to 3 times a week on 9-12-49;then over to the Mutual network beginning 1-2-50 to 12-8-50; off the air until 1-20-51; weekend broadcasts beginning the following week, and so on. Whew! You'd need a sled dog team just to FIND the show! The series finally Officially became "Sgt. Preston of the Yukon" on 11-13-51, with the final live broadcast on 6-9-55.
