Byron the Elf:And now it's time for another visit with...

Hello, children. Today we're going to hear the story I call "The Enchanted Tree."

(SFX: Music box)

Once upon a time, there was a young prince who took a ride through a magic forest. There he met a witch who changed him into a maple tree, and he would remain a tree until a beautiful girl agreed to marry him.

The prince was heartbroken. How would any beautiful girl ever marry a tree? How could he speak to her?

Then one day, years later, a beautiful young girl was walking through the magic forest, and the tree prince knew that he must speak to her. He tried and tried, until the wind rustling through his branches made a sound like "I love you...I love you..."

The young girl had not noticed the tree prince before, but now she turned around and walked up to it. She then, ever so gently, carved her initials in his chest.

B: Thank you, Story Lady. Be sure and listen next time, boys and girls, when The Story Lady will read aloud from the Cincinatti Telephone Directory.
