Baseball Caps

Stan Freberg here. What percentage of all hats now sold in the U.S. are baseball caps? The answer, after this. [:60 SPOT BREAK]

Freberg again. Old-time gangsters always wore hats. If you watch old movies on television, or recent movies like "L.A. Confidential," you see every man in a hat; I mean a gray fedora. But not these days.

The answer to my earlier question, "What percentage of all hats sold in the U.S. are baseball caps," is 70%! Amazing. This has nothing to do with the start of baseball season, people wear baseball caps all year long. My son is rarely without one.

But can you picture the men in all those old classic movies wearing baseball caps instead of regular hats? Clark Gable in a baseball cap? Get outta here! Or how about "Dragnet's" Jack Webb in a baseball cap? Forget it.

And yet, 70% of all hats now sold are baseball caps. Go figure.

That's all from the hat desk.
