STAN FREBERG HERE...

What's "In," What's "Out"?

Stan Freberg here. Now that we're in a new year, there's a lot of lists going around about what's "in" and "out." Amusing radio commentaries are "in"...I just made that up. But I'll be back with the latest "ins" and "outs," in a minute. [:60 SPOT BREAK]

Freberg again. Well, the Muppet character Elmo is "in"--the tickling and non-tickling kind. No surprise there, but apparently Barney, the ubiquitous purple dino, is "out." Good. My theory is that his unbelievably annoying voice did him in.

Career moms are "out," soccer moms are "in." I hate the term "soccer moms." I never played soccer as a kid, and neither did either of my kids. And if we had, my mom or their mom wouldn't have hauled them around, if only to avoid that terrible nickname "soccer mom."

Airbags are "out," seat belts are "in." According to USA Today, HMOs are "out," holistic medicine is "in." Good. My son Donavan has a Master's in homeopathy, and is about to become a doctor of Oriental medicine.

Channel surfing is "out," net surfing is "in." Cyber-shopping is "in," the mall is "out." Fine. Tell that to the kids I see cruising the mall all the time.

The "Arch Deluxe" is "out," the "Whopper" is "in." Hey, don't get mad at me, this is just what USA Today says.

I'm gonna make my own "in" and "out" list.

Until next time, Stan Freberg here.
