The Freberg Data Bank: Birthdays, Weather, and Gladys

Stan Freberg here with "The Freberg Data Base." What culture first celebrated birthdays? Answer: the ancient Egyptians, about 3000 B.C....ah, Willard Scott came along later. [:60 SPOT BREAK]

Freberg here. Around the world, how much rain falls to the Earth every second? Answer: 16,000,000 tons! Heh...what a laugh that would get down in Texas, right?

And when you're on "Cloud 9," you're feeling great, but what has that got to do with the U.S. Weather Bureau? Well, "Cloud 9" was once its classification for the highest clouds. I don't know, lately it seems I've only been on about "Cloud 8." Bill Clinton lately has been on about "Cloud 1 and a half," tops.

Finally, in the 1940s, who played for the New York Knicks, the New York Rangers and the Brooklyn Dodgers, all in one season? Answer: Gladys Gooding. She was the stadium organist...I said "played"!
