Stan Freberg here. According to the Wall Street Journal, big public clocks are making a comeback. That's good news for those people who don't wear watches. More after this. [:60 SPOT BREAK]
Freberg here. Growing up, I remember I couldn't walk a block in Pasadena without seeing some big clock, but not for a while. But now, these old-time public clocks are making a comeback. Even in Las Vegas, where tradition has dictated no clocks in the casinos, the Santa Fe Casino has installed an old-fashioned four face clock.
Maybe the coming millenium has fueled interest in time. On New York's Madison Avenue, watch dealer Tourneau has installed a huge time machine, eleven feet wide, with different faces telling time in cities around the globe.
I like the idea that more and more, we'll be able to return to clocks as a meeting place. You ever hear anybody say, "I'll meet you under the digital display"?
