STAN FREBERG HERE...Callahan Rides Again!
Stan Freberg here with more on the controversial but hilarious cartoonist, John Callahan. [:60 SPOT BREAK]
Freberg here. My friend Callahan has a new book out. He's sitting on the cover in his wheelchair under the title, "Will The Real John Callahan PLEASE Stand Up?" Great.
A lot of his cartoons are based on handicap situations, which he should know all about, since John is a quadriplegic. Here's a Callahan showing a "Home for the Paralyzed," with all the patients hearing a church next door singing (sings) "I'll Never Walk Alone!" (Laughs)
But Callahan's wheelchair aside, it's his brilliant satiric mind I'm saluting, like his cartoon of a judge saying to a criminal, "I sentence you to 15 years in the federal penitentiary, with no possibility of a TV movie."
Robin Williams says he'll play John in a movie he's producing. Perfect! Callahan rides again...pun intended.
