Stan Freberg here. Well, the President handed us a Federal budget of 1.3 trillion. I can't resist playing a few bars from a PBS special I once did: a musical on the Federal budget. [:60 SPOT BREAK]
Freberg here. I called it "The Federal Budget Review, or 'The $600 Billion Misunderstanding'," because that's what our budget was. Now, we have a trillion dollar budget, as the prophet Freberg predicted.
PBS tried to talk me out of my lyric, "One morning we'll wake up and find it's a trillion." "Too unbelievable," they said. Oh, yeah? Listen: (Stan sings) Oh, the Federal Budget For the budget that used to be 300 million 18 years later, Bill Clinton actually gave us the trillion dollar budget. Life imitating art, eh?
