The "Paws" That Refreshes

Stan Freberg here. The Coca-Cola Company has announced plans to build a 100 ft. high glass Coke bottle, with a 10 story elevator inside. And where is it to be built? Where else? Las Vegas, of course. Sorta reminded me of a radio commercial I once created for Coke. It, too, had a giant Coke bottle in it. I'll tell you about that, in a minute. [:60 SPOT BREAK]

Freberg again. Well, when I read about Coca-Cola's plans to build a giant Coke bottle in Las Vegas on the strip, as a tourist attraction, it gave me pause. Not "the pause that refreshes," their famous trademark slogan; just a pause. It sorta reminded me of a radio commercial I once created for Coke that ran on the air for quite a while.

It had these two guys planning to build a huge 100 ft. high bottle of Coke in Egypt, as an advertisement for Coca-Cola. "Where are we gonna put it?" one man asked. "I thought right next to the Sphinx," I said. "Which end?" the first guy says. "Well, put it between the Sphinx's paws, that'll look nice." The other guy says, "Okay, a huge bottle of Coke between the Sphinx's paws, got it. But wait a minute--what if some other soft drink company comes along and puts their bottle at the other end?" "So what?" I said. "It's what's between the paws that refreshes."

Ahem...sorry about that. You think somebody at Coke has been digging around in their audio archives and discovered my old radio commercials?
