Bigger Not Always Better

Stan Freberg here. Why has everything suddenly gotten bigger? Overnight it seems "big" has become "in." Be right back.

Freberg here. It seems like only yesterday when everything was smaller. After the self-indulging 80s, it became cool to scale down--smaller cars, houses, egos; but suddenly it seems small is out!

On the highway, every other car is a huge sports utility vehicle: "BEEEEEEEEP! Get outta the way!" In L.A., where I live, every big shot must build still a bigger mansion! "Ostentatious" is now a compliment.

When Ted Turner gave a billion dollars to the United Nations, he first had to be assured that nobody had ever given a bigger gift. Meanwhile, smaller is still okay with me--a small dinner, with a small group of friends. Perfect. And--what's this? A big check???

Hmm...send it over to Ted Turner.

Stan Freberg here.
