STAN FREBERG HERE...

Happy Birthday, Mr. Edison!

Stan Freberg here. If it's your birthday today, you share it with America's greatest inventor, Thomas Edison. Without him, the light from your birthday candles might be the only light in the room, since Edison gave us electric lights. [:60 SPOT BREAK]

Freberg here. Thomas Alva Edison not only lit up the world, he patented over a thousand inventions, like the phonograph. On my latest Rhino CD, "Stan Freberg presents the U.S.A., Volume 2," I kidded Edison and his phonograph, but only with love. In his lab, I had someone look at the first Edison horn and ask, "What's that?" Edison said, "It's a thing to entertain dogs."

He also invented the microphone, without which I wouldn't be talking to you today, and the motion picture camera, so without Edison, we wouldn't have the movie or music businesses, let alone the Grammy Awards, of which I was a founding member, honoring him with that little gold Edison horn.

So, Happy Birthday, Tom, from Stan Freberg here.
