STAN FREBERG HERE...

T.M.I.(Too Many Initials)?

(1998 Version)

Stan Freberg here. Is the world getting initial heavy? From PMS to MSG, the mind reels, or TMR. Be right back. [:60 SPOT BREAK]

Freberg here. I hate initials to abbreviate things. When I was in the Army we were initialed to death, from memos from HQ to that old standby in the mess hall, S.O.S., or creamed chipped beef on toast, which I happen to like, by the way. But S.O.S. stood for...Something On a Shingle. The first word wasn't "something." I cleaned it up for radio, ahem...

I guess we can't take time to spell everything out. "AARP" is definitely shorter than "American Association of Retired Persons"; we know "SS" has nothing to do with Nazis now; it means "Social Security." But "CD" could mean either something you put money into at the bank, or a compact disc.

I have to get off the www now and go choose my HMO, so I'd better get outta here p.d.q.

Stan Freberg here.
