Here's to Women Vets!

Stan Freberg here. Today is Veteran's Day; traditionally a day to honor all the men who served their country. The MEN? How 'bout the WOMEN? See? I said that even before feminist attorney Gloria Allred had a chance to sue me! Be right back. [:60 SPOT BREAK]

Freberg here. Just in time for Veteran's Day, a new memorial honoring servicewomen was dedicated. As Armed Forces Radio carries me to our troops in 151 countries, I'd like to ask, "What took us so long?"

Women have been part of the military mix for a long time. In the Army, stationed at McCornack General Hospital, I reported to a woman--Capt. Laura Mack. I gave her a "Mack attack" daily, like, say, by entertaining the injured men from the South Pacific upstairs, when I was supposed to be writing the base newspaper. She was tough. She'd say, "No problem, Freberg - you can just stay up all night so we can get it printed on time."

Happy Veteran's Day, Capt. Mack, and veterans everywhere.
