T.M.I.(Too Many Initials)?

Stan Freberg here with a complaint about T.M.I. That stands for "Too Many Initials." Is the world getting initial heavy from the F.B.I. to the G.O.P. to the NRA? The mind reels, or "T.M.R." [:60 SPOT BREAK]

I've always hated initials to abbreviate things. In the Army we were initialed to death, from memos issued from HQ to that old standby in the mess hall, "S.O.S.", or creamed chipped beef on toast, which I happen to like, by the way. But "S.O.S." stood for "Something On a Shingle." Ahem...the first word actually wasn't "something," I cleaned it up for radio, but the troops know what I mean.

We all know what the C.I.A. or the I.R.S. means; CEO is a little shorter than "Chief Executive Officer," but "CD" could mean something you put money into at the bank, or a compact disc.

Well, I have to get off the "www" now and go choose my HMO, so I'd better get out of here PDQ.

SFH, or, Stan Freberg here.
